Jakarta. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Monday (08/01) launched an exhibit featuring the Ministry of Foreign Affairs's various achievements over the past three years as part of an effort to raise public awareness and in the hopes that it will boost the ministry’s future performance.
"This is how we remain accountable to the public, to show what we have been doing in the past three years and to make it easier for the public to understand our efforts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Retno said.
Retno added that Indonesian diplomacy is conducted by a number of stakeholders, including Indonesia’s United Nations peacekeepers.
"Our peacekeepers are an asset in our diplomacy, it’s how Indonesia gets to show how it contributes to world peace," Retno said.
The exhibit, which will run until Friday at the Foreign Affairs Ministry complex in Central Jakarta, features the booths of the ministry’s various units where visitors can learn about their distinct accomplishments and ongoing work.
The directorate general of legal affairs and international treaties, for example, will disseminate information about its new website, which will allow college students or researchers to access the agreements Indonesia has made with other countries. In the past, those who were interested in accessing such information had to visit Jakarta and access the treaty room at the ministry.
On Tuesday, Retno is scheduled to deliver her annual press statement, where she will highlight Indonesia’s foreign policy achievements and plans for the new year.
